the Arupadai Veedu is a group of six Murugan Temples – Tiruttani,
Tiruchendur, Swamimalai, Pazhamudircholai, Tirupalunkunram, Palani

by the poet Nakkirar in the Tirumurugatrupadai, a classic of the
third century AD.
TIRUTTANI
The most prominent of the Murugan temples ,
this beautiful Tiruttani temple crowns a single rock 700 feet
above sea level. His righteous indignation towards the Asuras
was quelled here and so it is known as Shantipuri or Abode of
Peace. If he is worshipped here with heart and soul for five consecutive
days, the worshipper is blessed with the best in this life and
after. Prayers of unswerving faith and intense devotion are promptly
answered.
TIRUCHENDUR TEMPLE
This 2000-year old temple is the only one of
Lord Muruga or Arulmigu Subramanya Swami located on the seashore.
He was believed to have encamped here before and after defeating
the Asuras. He worshipped Lord Siva at the shrine Mayan had built
for Him. The foundation of this temple was laid on the Kanda Madana
Parvata or the red sandstone rock of this coast.A portion of the
cliff was bored into to create the holy sanctum of Subramaniam.
The temple also has a huge tower of about 140 feet.
PALANI TEMPLE
This ancient Palani temple was built in the
7th Century AD by King Cheaman Perumal at an elevation of 1500
feet above sea level. It was later added to by the Nayaks. The
deity of Palani is known as Dandayudhapani Swami, the Lord having
the Staff in his Hand. The deity was skillfully crafted by Siddha
Bhogar out of an amalgam of nine minerals popularly called Navabashana.

This is a fortified temple complex on a wooded
hill in the outskirts of Madurai. It is revered as one of Lord
Vishnu’s 108 abodes and glorified by the hymns of the Alwars.
Atop the hill, is the Noopura Ganga, a perennial waterfall with
a temple dedicated to Rakkayi Amman. It is believed to have sprung
from Vishnu’s anklet.Visiting this temple assures devotees of
a healthy and disease-free life.
SWAMIMALAI TEMPLE
The Swamimalai Temple near Thanjavur is built
on a 60 ft high artificial hillock with 60 beautifully laid stone
steps representing the Hindu cycle of 60 years. Here,Lord Murugan
expounded the meaning of the Pranava mantra OM to his Father Lord
Siva, himself. The temple has a dazzling golden chariot made of
7 kg of gold, 85 kg of silver, and other metals.Devotees on paying
Rs. 1001 can take the deity in a procession in the golden chariot
and are given a shawl, a silver pot and prasadam.
TIRUPPARANKUNDRAM TEMPLE
Tirupparankundram is a cave temple built on
a hill near Madurai and dedicated to the element of 'earth'. Murugan
was married to Devasena here and for many centuries this has been
regarded the most auspicious place to conduct marriages. It is
referred to as ‘the place where the sun and moon abide'. Besides,
various classical Tamil texts call this the 'Southern Himalayas'
